Weeks 1–2
Pain
Settle and support.
We calm any irritation and, where it helps, build custom bracing so you can keep using the hand while it heals.
What We Treat
The jar you can’t open. The hand that won’t do what it always did. Getting that back starts with a cause-first evaluation, not a guess.

Why It Happens
Your hand didn’t fade for no reason. It’s rarely just one thing. It’s usually a mix: an old injury that healed short and stiff, muscles that weakened from months of guarding, joints that lost their glide, and a nerve or arthritic change quietly limiting what you can do. Each one feeds the next, so the hand does less, and gets weaker for it.
Which of those is actually holding you back takes a cause-first evaluation to sort out. That’s the difference between a generic squeeze ball and real progress. We rebuild motion and strength, add custom bracing where it helps, and grade you back to real activity. Your independence is worth protecting. Find the cause, and you can get the hand back.
The Honest Truth
Nobody regrets starting too early. Every week, someone in our clinic says they regret waiting.
How We Fix It
Every plan has an endpoint. Here’s what the four phases look like when you’ve lost strength or motion.
Weeks 1–2
Pain
We calm any irritation and, where it helps, build custom bracing so you can keep using the hand while it heals.
Weeks 2–6
Prime
Targeted mobility work frees the stiff joints and restores the range your hand has slowly lost.
Weeks 6–10
Perform
Graded strengthening brings back the grip and control you need to trust the hand with real work again.
Weeks 10+
Prevent
A graded return puts the hand back on the tasks that make you independent before you’re cleared: that’s the endpoint, not just another appointment.
I broke my thumb. Andy provided detailed professional advice, was honest and transparent about how long recovery would take, and built me a personalized hand and thumb brace that allowed me to maintain mobility and was strong enough that I used it when I could start working out again. I appreciated how optimistic he was to get me back to 100%.

Early on: a broken thumb and no idea how long recovery would take
Later: a custom brace, mobility kept, and back in the gym
Questions, Answered
Age is real, but it isn’t the whole story, and it is too often used to explain away a hand that could get better. Much of lost grip and motion comes from disuse, stiffness, and old injuries, and those respond to the right work. A cause-first evaluation sorts out what’s truly age and what’s recoverable. You may have written off more than you had to.
In most cases, yes. Muscle and motion respond to the right load applied in the right order, even after a long layoff. You work one-on-one with a Certified Hand Therapist, every visit, and custom bracing can support the hand so you keep using it as it rebuilds. We restore motion first, then strength, then put it back to real activity. Progress is often bigger than people expect.
It depends on how long the hand has been fading and how much motion and strength you’ve lost. A full plan runs through all four phases, Pain, Prime, Perform, and Prevent, on a timeline set by your progress. Either way, you get a plan with an endpoint: you’ll always know which phase you’re in and what’s left, not an open-ended string of appointments.
